The Tumblers are the premier gymnastic team in the Ark-La-Tex. Through dedication and hard work, the girls have achieved countless invitational, area, state, and regional titles in both individual and team competitions. Year after year, the Tumblers are one of the most competitive and respected teams in the region. Their motto, "Striving For Better Than Perfect," clearly states their relentless pursuit of success.
February 6, 2011, Conway, AR.
The heavy snow and freezing conditions on Friday did little to cool off the red hot North East Texas Tumblers as they travelled to Conway, AR. to compete In the Sonshine Gymnastics Invitational on February 5-6, 2011. The meet was originally scheduled to begin on Friday evening; however, the inclement weather caused the start to be delayed until Saturday afternoon and then continue on Sunday.
Kara Reaves, Kirsten Clay and Madison Maynard were the first to compete in the session on Saturday evening. Reaves (11yr old Level 6) dominated her division winning all four events and the All-Around with her season high total of 36.00. Her individual event scores include: Vault – 9.00, Bars – 8.45, Beam – 9.55, Floor – 9.00. Clay (Level 7, 12+ division) was competing in her first event since April 2009 due to a series of physical challenges and injuries. She competed in three events (Vault – 9.0, Beam – 9.4, Floor – 9.35) taking first place in all three in her division. Maynard (Level 8, 12-13 yr old division) scored a 34.50 AA in route to a first place finish overall. Her individual events included 1st on vault (8.75) and floor (9.55) as well as 2nd on bars (7.95) and beam (8.25).
NETT’s Level 5 team was up early on Sunday morning and continued the streak with another 1st place all-around and a second place team finish. Skylar Huddleston (Level 5 – 12B division) won the all-around with a season high 36.4 score. She placed first on bars (9.2), beam (9.4), and floor (9.0) along with third on vault (8.8). Team mate Shaleigh Chandler (Level 5 – 12B division) finished out the NETT sweep of the gold medals by winning the vault (9.45) and finishing in second behind Huddleston in the all-around with a 35.40. Chandler also placed 4th on bars (8.6), 3rd on beam (8.65) and 3rd on floor (8.7). Kayla White (Level 5 – 12B division) helped out the team effort as well as winning individual awards on vault (6th place – 8.05), beam (4th place – 8.6), floor (4th – 8.55) and all-around (5th – 31.35). Chloe Davis (Level 5 – 9 yr old division) made a strong showing in a tough younger division finishing 3rd in the all-around with a 35.1. She scored season highs on vault (4th - 8.85), and bars (3rd – 8.85) as well as 3rd on beam (8.8) and 2nd on floor (8.6). The Level 5 team finished second out of 9 teams in the competition.
The Level 4 team rounded out the day on Sunday by winning many individual honors in route to a first place in the team competition. Kyra Knowles (6-7 yr old division) led all scorers in the Level 4 competition in all divisions with a career high 37.7 AA. She placed first in every event with the following scores: vault (9.65), bars (9.4), beam (9.1), floor (9.55). Meredith Maynard was the second leading scorer in all divisions behind Knowles and finished first in the 10 yr old division with a career high 37.2 AA. Maynard placed 1st on vault (9.7), beam (9.05) and floor (9.3). A minor error on bars cost her to lose precious points but she still managed to hold on to second place in that event with a 9.15. Emma Seidenschwarz (9-B division) finished second in her respective division with a career high 35.90 AA. She also placed 2nd on beam (9.0) and floor (9.1) along with 3rd on bars (8.85) and 4th on vault (8.95). Caroline Baird (6-7 yr olds) finished second overall in her division with a 35.65 AA as well as placing second on each of the events with the following scores: vault (9.50), bars (8.7), beam (8.25), floor (9.2). Katelyn Seidenschwarz (9-B division) finished 3rd in the all-around of her age group with a 35.60. She also placed 2nd on vault (9.1) and bars (8.9), 3rd on floor (8.75) and 4th on beam (8.85). Makayla Cigainero (11 yr olds) placed 2nd on vault (9.325) and bars (9.15) in her respective age division as well as 3rd on beam (8.6) and 4th on floor (8.2) to finish 4th in the all-around with a 35.275. Sydney Rankin (9-B division) won vault (9.75) and floor (9.15) in her age group and finished 3rd on beam (8.9) and 7th on bars in route to a 34.40 all-around score and 4th place. The Level 4 team finished in 1st place out of 10 teams with a 0.6 point lead over the host Sonshine Academy team.
The Tumblers next travel to Fayetteville, AR to compete in the Durham’s Invitational hosted by Durham’s Gymnastics on February 26. The team will arrive in Fayetteville on Friday in time to watch the #9 ranked Arkansas Lady Backs host the #5 ranked Florida Gators in SEC competition. The members of NETT will then get to compete in Barnhill Arena on the University of Arkansas campus the following day. Madison Maynard will close out the season with the Level 8 Texas State Championships on March 19 in Houston where she will be trying to qualify for the first time to the Region 3 Level 8 Championships in Oklahoma City, OK in April. The Region 3 Championships will include the best gymnasts from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming.
